MEDIAEDGE4-Live, Scheduled, and On-Demand Enterprise/Digital Signage Video Distribution

MEDIAEDGE® is a multi-channel, multilocation delivery system of high- or standard-definition (HD or SD) video and digital signage using standard TCP/IP networks and HD/SD display devices. Comprised of server, encoder, client software, and SMIL-compliant set-top box (STB) components, this flexible and modular system is ideal for point-of-sale, corporate, and other video-retrieval and digital-signage applications.

The MEDIAEDGE system lets you deliver video and signage content in three ways: on-demand, scheduled playback, and live broadcast.

In a video-on-demand (VOD) application, users select video clips stored on the MEDIAEDGE-SVS4 server for viewing, either from a dynamically updated menu, or through direct channel number selection via a remote control. A user can pause, stop, and resume viewing content at any time. Clients can pause, fast forward, or rewind video clips during playback.

Scheduled playback allows an unlimited number of users to view a preprogrammed arrangement of multiple video clips. The MEDIAEDGE-SVS4 server can have multiple scheduled channels running simultaneously, with set program times scheduled to run hourly, daily, or monthly. MEDIAEDGE-STB4 users can surf channels by simply using the remote control. MEDIAEDGE-SWT software users can do the same within a Web browser.

For live broadcasting, the MEDIAEDGE system can utilize the real-time capabilities of its encoding devices to transmit live external SD and HD video sources such as cameras, VCRs, and DVD players as professional-quality MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4 (H.264) streams to multiple clients with minimal delay.

Using this feature, the system can retransmit television and satellite feeds. Such content, once MPEG encoded, may also be recorded for later viewing or scheduling. As with external SD or HD video, HDV footage can be streamed live or recorded for later use. The MEDIAEDGE-LEB4 encoder is capable of sending live video streams to MEDIAEDGE systems. The video source for the LEB needs to be HDMI or SDI. The LEB supports both SD and HD resolution, which is detected automatically by the hardware.

Designed as a compact, SMIL-compliant network device, the MEDIAEDGE-STB4 provides multiple layers of video and multimedia display ideal for digital signage and/or video distribution.

Supported media types include MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-2 HD (HDV), MPEG-4 (H.264), JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF, MP3, HTML, and plain text. Live data from RSS feeds is also supported.

The MEDIAEDGE-STB4 includes built-in MEDIAEDGE menu browsing capabilities. It connects to a standard Ethernet network and provides HDMI, and composite RCA outputs.

The STB also has a full-featured remote control for navigating dynamically updated content menus generated by a MEDIAEDGE-SVS4 server. The remote control also provides volume, pause, search-back, and search-forward functions. A server can also control the STBs remotely.
